Mentoring Program (ARSC)

Yuri Shimoda, Coordinator

The Association for Recorded Sound Collections invites those who are new to the association, current student/recent graduate members, and ARSC veterans to participate in the ARSC Mentoring Program.

The Mentoring Program matches ARSC Newcomers (new, student, and recent graduate members) with long-time members (Guides) based on their shared interests. Guides begin to provide Newcomers with an orientation to ARSC, its members and activities through email, phone, and/or virtual meetings leading up to the annual conference. Participants will be connected with a Guide during the week of April 17 in order for them to have several weeks to get to know each other via email, phone, or video call, so they will already have begun to form a rapport before the conference. There will be a Zoom meeting for all program participants to learn more about ARSC and socialize with one another in early May. The program is open to all Newcomers who did not participate in 2022. Only ARSC members who are committed to mentoring should volunteer as Guides.

All Guides and Newcomers should plan to attend the Mentoring Program Event on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 6:00 PM Eastern at the 57th Annual ARSC Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Please complete this form by April 9, 2023 to register as a Guide or Newcomer: https://forms.gle/6EGpDhaZVNTbWVyJ9.

Questions may be directed to ARSCGuides@gmail.com.

**In addition, there will be a virtual meetup for all students, recent graduates, and new ARSC members on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM Pacific Time/4:00 PM Eastern Time. During the meeting, the Mentoring Program Coordinator will answer any questions you might have about the association, and we'll discuss details of the 2023 Mentoring Program and future events. If you are able to attend, please email ARSCGuides@gmail.com to be provided with the Zoom link.

Fight the Funk Playlist: Songs That Bring Us Joy

The 2021 Mentoring Program launched in April with Newcomers (those new to ARSC, as well as current students and recent graduates) being matched with a Guide to provide them with an orientation to ARSC, its members, and activities leading up to the annual conference. The entire group attended the Introduction to ARSC event on May 12, 2021 to learn more about the association, its executive board and committees, and member benefits. After a Q&A period, attendees took park in an ice-breaker activity that involved sharing of songs that make them happy. To follow is the playlist that was created during this discussion.
