Hotel Information

menger hotel

The 2017 ARSC conference will be held in downtown San Antonio at the Menger Hotel, situated next to the Alamo Mission, better known as the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. Founded in 1859 during the early days of the Texas frontier and enlarged over the years, the Menger is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel's original three story Victorian lobby is decorated with period furniture and paintings and flanked by shops featuring antiques, collectibles and cigars. The Menger Bar, modeled after the House of Lords Pub in London, was frequented by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. In addition to hosting many famous individuals over the past 150 years, the Menger is said to be visited regularly by 32 different ghosts, including the spirit of Roosevelt and those who died at the Alamo. You can read more about the hotel's history here.

The Colonial Room Restaurant in the Menger Hotel offers a fixed price breakfast and lunch buffet on Monday-Saturday, a Sunday brunch, and dinner from 5-10:00pm daily. Many restaurants and cafes are located nearby, including those along San Antonio's famous Riverwalk.

The Menger Hotel offers a variety of guest rooms and suites with complimentary WiFi, a 42" flat-screen television and coffee maker; a limited number of refrigerators are available upon request. Guests may request a room with a private balcony, or a room with views of the swimming pool, Spanish courtyard garden, the Alamo, or Alamo Plaza. Those located in the original Victorian wing feature elegant antique furnishings and one King or Queen bed. Alamo Plaza King rooms are located on the third floor of the Victorian building and have private balconies.

ARSC's contracted dates extend from Tuesday May 9 through Saturday May 13, 2017, with Sunday departure. Our group rate is honored three days before and three days after the conference, pending availability. If you wish to reserve rooms outside of the Tuesday-Saturday room block you will need to make your reservation by telephone. The deadline to make reservations at the ARSC group rate is April 17, 2017. Reservations made after this date, or after our room block is filled, will be on a space available basis at the prevailing rate. For those concerned about state firearm laws, The Menger Hotel has a "no open carry" policy.
