43nd Annual ARSC
Conference (Washington, D.C., May 27th-30th 2009)

Pre-Conference Tour of NAVCC
ARSC is currently planning a pre-conference tour on
Wed. May 27, 2009, of the new Library of Congress National Audio-Visual
Conservation Center (NAVCC).
Set on a beautiful 45 acre campus with stunning architectural design
and landscaping, the Packard Campus of
the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center is a state-of-the-art
facility where the Library of Congress acquires, preserves and provides
access to the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection
of films, television programs, radio broadcasts, and sound recordings.
The Campus has globally unprecedented capabilities and capacities for
the preservation reformatting of all audiovisual media formats (including
obsolete formats dating back 100 years) and their long-term safekeeping
in a petabyte-level digital storage archive. In addition to preserving
the collections of the Library, the Packard Campus was also designed
to provide similar preservation services for other archives and libraries
in both the public and private sector.
We anticipate that chartered buses will depart from the Liaison Capitol
Hill Hotel at approximately 9 a.m. on the morning of May 27 and will
return tour participants to the hotel between 5:00-6:00 p.m. Participation
will be limited and a separate registration fee will apply.
Additional tour information—including a program schedule and
registration form—will be posted on the ARSC website in February
or March 2009 and will be mailed to all ARSC members as part of the
2009 conference registration packet.
