Travel, Parking, and Weather Information
Travel by Air:
The San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is located north of the city, approximately eight miles or 15 minutes from the downtown area. Loop 410 and U.S. 281 are the two highways providing access to the main entry points. The airport is serviced by AeroMexico, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Interjet, Southwest, United, and Volaris Airlines; a list of non-stop flights between San Antonio and U.S. cities can be found here.
Super Shuttle is San Antonio International Airport's authorized and single shared-ride shuttle service. Shuttles depart from 7 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily to downtown hotels every 15 minutes. Passengers may purchase tickets at the airport's baggage claim area; current rates are $19.00 per person to downtown hotels or $34.00 for a round trip ticket. Book online and receive an additional discount.
Taxi cabs are available at the lower level of the airport, outside of baggage claim, at Terminal A & B. Fares to San Antonio downtown hotels start at $29 (U.S.) per taxicab. (Up to 6 may share a cab, if both luggage and passengers fit safely.) Additional rate information can be found here.
Approved rideshare services can meet customers curbside at the lower level Terminal B; these currently include Uber, Lyft, and Get Me.
VIA Metropolitan Transit is San Antonio's public transportation agency offering service throughout the city including streetcar service within the downtown area.
Car rental counters are located in Terminal A. Passengers can use the courtesy phones provided in the baggage claim area of Terminal A to request shuttle transport to the car rental company of their choice after hours or can proceed to the shuttle pick up area located outside baggage claim. The San Antonio Greyhound bus station is located downtown at 500 N St Mary's St., within walking distance of the Menger Hotel.
San Antonio's Amtrak railroad station is located at 350 Hoefgen Street on the eastern edge of downtown. Amtrak's Texas Eagle offers train service between San Antonio and Los Angeles, New Orleans, Chicago, and Kansas City. Amtrak is currently offering a free companion rail fare with the purchase of one regular adult fare for travel through May 15, 2017.

The Menger Hotel offers valet parking at the rate of $28 per day plus tax (in/out privileges, charged at time of service). ARSC conference attendees staying at the Menger receive the discounted rate of $22 per day plus 8.25% tax. Various private lots around the hotel offer rates from $12 to $25 per day. The Convention Center Garage located at 850 E. Commerce (corner of Commerce & Bowie Streets) offers a daily (24 hr.) flat rate of $10.00, which is likely the lowest in the vicinity of the Menger Hotel.
Downtown San Antonio Transportation:
San Antonio's VIA (public transportation) offers trolley service throughout downtown and to major tourist attractions. Current rates are $1.10 per ride, or $.55 for seniors and children 5-11; children 4 and under ride free. Day passes may be purchased for $4 at the San Antonio Visitor Center located across the street from the Menger Hotel.
The average high temperature in San Antonio in mid-May is 86°F (31°C) and the average low temperature is 66°F (19°C). Be prepared for high humidity and frequent thunderstorms. Visit the Weather Channel website for current conditions.
