ARSC Volunteer Opportunities

ARSC is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization managed entirely by member volunteers. Please consider taking on a volunteer role in service to the association and to the field of recorded sound.

arrow Archives Committee
Archives Committee Chair
The Archives Committee Chair leads the association's efforts to develop and maintain the ARSC Archives at the University of Maryland in collaboration with the UMD collection curator. Activities include identifying and preparing records for deposit, requesting funding to support collection processing activities at UMD, and assisting association stakeholders with conducting research in the collection. Estimated effort is 10-40 hours annually.

Assistant Conference Manager
The Assistant Conference Manager assists the conference manager in planning and executing ARSC's annual conference. Activities include assisting the conference manager in soliciting and reviewing RFPs from hotels and audiovisual services providers and coordinating solicitation of sponsors, exhibitors, and advertisers, and other duties as assigned. Estimated effort is 40 to 60 hours, annually.

Conference Registrar
The Conference Registrar coordinates registration for the annual conference and workshop. Activities include configuring and managing registration system; reporting registration figures to conference stakeholders; corresponding with registrants, sponsors, and exhibitors; ordering name badge supplies and preparing name badges; and supervising the registration desk at the conference. Estimated effort is 2-4 hours per week, March-May.

Local Arrangements Chair
The Conference Local Arrangements Chair, ideally located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, coordinates all local arrangements relating to the conference, including tours, local travel info, dining info, record store info, etc.. Estimated effort is 2-4 hours per week, March-May.
Conference Videographers (2-4 individuals)
The Conference Videographers attend and record annual conference and workshop sessions. Activities include attending conference; setting up videography equipment; video recording presentations; delivering video files to conference manager. Estimated effort is 2-4 hours per week, March-May.

Development Committee Chair
The Development Committee Chair coordinates efforts to encourage charitable giving to the association. Activities include developing and executing plans, soliciting donataions, corresponding with donors, reporting to the board of directors. Estimated effort is 15 to 30 hours, annually.

arrow Grants Committee
Grants Committee Co-Chair
The Grants Committee Co-Chair manages the ARSC Research Grants Program. Activities include soliciting proposals, corresponding with applicants, coordinating review of proposals, assisting recipients with reporting and reimbursement, and reporting on efforts to the board of directors. Estimated effort is 15 to 30 hours, annually.

Membership Committee Co-Chair
The Membership Committee Co-Chair leads the Membership Committee in its efforts to retain and recruit members. Activities include proposing, developing, and executing membership recruitment and retention plans, coordinating with relevant stakeholders, and reporting on efforts to the board of directors. Estimated effort is 40 to 60 hours, annually.

Online Media Committee Chair
The Online Media Committee Chair leads the committee charged with managing ARSC's online presence, including its website, social media, content channels (YouTube and Aviary), and the ARSC Media and Publications (AMP!) Database.

Forum Moderator(s)
The ARSC Forum Moderator(s) will host and moderate ARSC's forums on the Discourse platform, which will replace ARSCList and ARSCLIB. Much about this position is to be determined but if you are interested in helping to facilitate please let us know.

Website Editor
The ARSC Website Editor will work with a team to coordinate the redesign and development of the ARSC website by a website development service provider.

AMP! Database Editor
The AMP! Database Editor develops and maintains the ARSC Media and Publications Database in Filemaker Pro. Activities include: indexing ARSC Journal contents; indexing ARSC Conference Recordings; indexing ARSC Webinar recordings; and developing the database to include additional ARSC resources, such as ARSC Bulletins, ARSC Newsletters, etc.

Social Media Editor
The Social Media Editor manages ARSC's Twitter, Instagram, LinedIn, and Facebook accounts and Wikipedia page.

arrow Publications Committee
Book Reviews Editor
The Book Reviews Editor manages the production of the Book Reviews Section of the ARSC Journal. Activities include soliciting and receiving books for review; soliciting and retaining reveiewers; assigning and editing reviews; providing edited reviews to ARSC Journal designer; reviewing proof of section. Estimated effort: 15 to 30 hours per issue.

Advertising Editor
The Advertising Editor solicits advertisements for ARSC publications and advises the committee on matters of advertising policy and practices. Estimated effort: 10 to 15 hours, annually.

Publisher
The Publisher works with the ARSC Journal printer to address journal production issues as needed. Estimated effort: 2 to 8 hours, annually.
